Scottish Clubs in Europe - Hibernian FC were the first Scottish side to play in a European club competition (reaching the semi finals of the European Cup in 1956), Rangers were the first side to contest a final (European Cup Winners’ Cup Final in 1961) and Celtic were the first side to win a major final (European Cup in 1967). Rangers would win the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972 with Aberdeen winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup and European Super Cup in 1983. Whilst no Scottish Club has won the UEFA Cup / Europa League, Dundee United (1987), Celtic (2003) and Rangers (2008) have all been finalists.
